Yes! Well stated. We need to be more courageous as men to call each other out when inappropriate comments are made.

Agreed. Adam Kreek could’ve said something to similar effect without being sexist and should’ve just admitted that mistake rather than defending it. Good on Marnie, Chandra, Annamay and Adam van K for calling him on it and the National Post for running van Koeverden’s piece.

In one sense, if you feel the athlete isn’t focused it’s ok to say so. If Kreek thinks she’s too busy being a media darling to train seriously, he’s allowed to have that opinion. But would he have made the same remarks about a male athlete, in the same manner? And would it have been any more acceptable?

Agreed that he’s allowed to have the opinion that an athlete seems unfocused and say so, that was my point. What he shouldn’t have done was single out some typically female hobbies and interests as the reason, that’s what made the commentary sexist. Would he have made similar comments about a male athlete? Maybe, maybe not, we shouldn’t assume. Would it have been any more acceptable to make similar remarks in the same manner about a male athlete? For equality’s sake, it maybe shouldn’t be, but I doubt there would be a similar objection, right or wrong as that may be.
